Claims (8)

1. Compounds of the general formula: wherein R is methyl or isopropyl.
2. Methyl N-benzoyl- - (3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)-2-aminopropionate .
3. , Isopropyl N-behzoyl-N- (3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)-2-aminopropionate .
4. A process for the preparation of the oompounds as claimed in claim 1 which comprises reacting methyl or isopropyl N- (3-chloro- -fluorophenyl)-2-aminopropionate with a benzoyl halide.
5. A process for the preparation of the compounds as claimed in claim 1, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the Examples.
6. Compounds prepared by a process according to claim 4 or 5.
7.· A herbicidal composition comprising a carrier or a surface-active agent, or both a carrier and a surface-active agent together with, as active ingredient, a compound as claimed in claim 1, 2, 3 or 6.
8. A method of combating the growth of wild oats in cereal crops at a locus which comprises applying to the locus a selectively herbicldal amount of the oompound as claimed in olaim 1, 2 , 3 or 6 or a composition as olaimed in olaim 7. For the /Applicants OR, EINHO ID CQHH AND
