Claims (11)

42815/2 WHAT AVE CLAIM IS: -
1. A m ethod of crystallizing a substance from a solution thereof whi ch compris es ci rculating the solution around a system compri sing a lower crystallization zone maintained at atmospheric pressure or slightly above, and an evaporation zone and an upper vacuum zone , the circul ation being e f fected by ebul lition of the solution in the evaporation zone .
2. A method as claimed in Claim 1 in. hich the pressure in the vacuum zone i s maintained from 10 to 760 Torr .
3. A method as claimed in Claim 2 in which the pres sure in the vacuum zone is maintained at from 20 to 55 Torr.
4. A method a s claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the level of liquid in the vacuum chamber is maintained constant.
5. A method as claimed in Claim 4 in which the level of liquid in the vacuum chamber is maintained constant by varying the pressure of the gas above the liquid in the lower crystallization chamber.
6. · A method as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein agitation is effected in the crystallizatio zone. 42815/2
7. A method as claimed in Claim 1 substantially as hereinbefore described and with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Apparatus for crystallizing a substance from a solution thereof which comprises a crystallization chamber in spatially i fluid connection with a/higher vacuum chamber via ($.) a first conduit and a heat exchanger and (ii) a second conduit, the vacuum and crystallization chambers each being provided with said solution inlet means a-iid-a crystallization chamber being provided with crystals outlet means.
9. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 8 in which the heat exchanger is connected to the upper part of the first conduit.
10. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 8 or Claim 9 provided with a differential manometer to measure the pressure difference between the vacuum chamber and the crystallization chamber.
11. · Crystallization apparatus as claimed in Claim 8 ' substantially as hereinbefore described and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
