Abstract

A method and apparatus for printing a plurality of single warp ends of yarn wherein the ends of yarn are passed through a series of printing assemblies, each assembly including a pair of roll-like assemblies at least one of which roll-like assemblies carries a plurality of reciprocally movable pads thereon which can be selectively, reciprocally moved in a pre-determined manner in a direction normal to the longitudinal axis of the roll-like assembly to contact the yarn being printed on. Control of the pads is, in turn, made possible by a plurality of patterned program bars which can be selectively moved in a pre-determined manner in a direction normal to the reciprocal direction of movement of the pads. Claims (17)

1. Printing apparatus comprising a printing assembly including at least one carrier, said carrier carrying a plurality of pad assemblies thereon, each pad assembly being supported for movement on the carrier in a path which has two extreme positions defining a printing position and a non-print position, a plurality of programme bars being carried on said carrier and each bar being operatively connected with a plurality of said pad assemblies, each bar being movable on said carrier to any of a plurality of positions for presenting selected ones of its pad assemblies in their printing positions, and a drive arrangement being operatively connected to said programme bars to control movement thereof.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said carrier is a rotatable roll assembly, said plurality of pad assemblies are arranged in circumferentially spaced rows extending along a generator of said roll assembly, and said programme bars are spaced circumferentially around said roll assembly parallel to said rows, each programme bar being operatively connected with one of said rows.
3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 2, wherein the pad assemblies of each row are carried on a stringer extending longitudinally of said row .
4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3, wherein each said pad assembly comprises a platform having a rod portion which is movably supported in the stringer supporting said each pad assembly.
5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 4, wherein the rod portion extends from one surface of said platform, a tang extends from said one surface, and a cap is fitted over a surface of said platform opposite said one surface for supporting printing means.
6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5, wherein said cap supports a resilient pad on one surface thereof.
7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 6, wherein said resilient pad supports a pile surface on one surface thereof.
8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5, wherein said cap member supports a pile fabric on one surface thereof.
9. Apparatus as claimed in any of claims 3 to 8, wherein each programme bar is carried on the stringer supporting a row of pad assemblies adjacent to the row of pad assemblies controlled by said programme bar.
10. Apparatus as claimed in any of claims 3 to 8, wherein each programme bar is carried on the stringer supporting the row of pad assemblies controlled by said programme bar.
11. Apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said drive arrangement includes a cam assembly which is operatively connected with said programme bars to be capable of moving the bars relative to said pad assemblies.
12. Apparatus as claimed in claim 11, wherein said cam assembly includes a first cam operatively connected with some of said programme bars and a second cam operatively connected with others of said programme bars.
13. Apparatus as claimed in claim 11 or 12, wherein the drive arrangement includes a control mechanism operatively connected with said cam assembly to move the cam assembly according to a predetermined sequence .
14. Apparatus as claimed in any of claims 1 to 12, including a plurality of such printing assemblies each spaced from the other, and a common control mechanism is provided for the programme bars of all of said assemblies.
15. Apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein each of said programme bars comprises a first base portion, and a second portion extending at right angles to said base portion, and wherein said second portion extends in a direction to underlie the pad assemblies controlled by each s¾id programme bar. 42 J
16. Apparatus as claimed in claim 15, wherein said programme bars are notched along their second porti according to a predetermined pattern.
17. Apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein two of the carriers are provided in the or each printing assembly. COW I 7EDFK & SPiSBACH p. ,:;:- ; : : ;i , Tel-Aviv Att rne s ί <> r Applicant
