Claims (10)
1. A vessel for normal use in traveling solely on the water comprising a hull having a surface for engaging a body of water during movement of said hull through the body of water, means for imparting lift forces to said hull to raise said hull relative to the body of water from a first position in which a relatively large portion of said hull is submersed in a body of water to a second position in which a relatively small portion of said hull is submersed in a body of water, including airfoil means extending transversely from said hull at a' location above said surface for producing a lift force upon . movement through the air and propulsion means for imparting forward thrust forces to said airfoil means,- said propulsion means including rotor means disposed adjacent to a trailing edge portion of said airfoil means for applying 'forwardly directed air pressure thrust forces to the trailing edge portion of said airfoil means and for inducing a flow of air along a path extending across an upper surface of said airfoil means and downwardly at the trailing edge portion of said airfoil means to include the application of air pressure lift forces to said airfoil means and movement of said hull from the first position toward the second position, said rotor means including blades which are supported for rotation in a plane which intersects the trailing edge of the "airfoil means at a location above the lower surface of said airfoil me¾ns. 41968/2
2. A water vessel as set forth in claim 1 further including means for supporting said blade means for rotation about a axis which extends at an acute angle to a vertical plane.

A water vessel as set forth in claim 2 wherein said airfoil means includes an inner end portion disposed adjacent to said hull and an^outer end portion spaced from said hull, said water vessel further including surface means extending downwardly from the outer end portion of said airfoil means into the body of water at a location outwardly of said blade means for at least partially blocking flow of air in an outward direction along said airfoil means.
4. A vessel as set forth in claim 3 further including flotation means connected with said surface means for engaging the body of water to stabilise said vessel.

A vessel as set forth in claim 3 wherein said surface means includes an upper portion which extends from the leading edge portion to the trailing edge portion of said airfoil means and a lower portion which has an extent which is at least as great as the extent of the upper portion of said surface means.

A water vessel as set forth in claim 2 wherein said airfoil means includes a first wing extending outwardly from one side of said hull and a second wing extending outwardly from another side o said hull, said blade means including a first blade member mounted for rotation adjacent to a trailing edge portion of said first wing and a seeond blade member mounted for rotation adjacent to the trailing edge portion of said second x*ing* 41968/2

A water vessel as set forth in claim 6 wherein said airfoil means further includes a third wing extending outwardly from said one side of said hull at a location spaced rearwardly from said first wing and a fourth wing extending outwardly from said other side of said hull at a location spaced rearwardly from said second wing, said blade means further including a third blade member mounted for rotation adjacent to a trailing edge portion of said third wing and a fourth blade member mounted for rotation adjacent to a trailing edge, portion of said fourth wing.
8. 2. vessel as set forth in claim 7 further including first pontoon means disposed on said one side of said hull and having a portion extending from a location beneath an oute end portion of said first wing to a locatio beneath an outer end portion of said third wing, first means for connecting said first pontoo means with said first and third wings, second pontoon means disposed on said other side of said hull and having a portion extending f om a location beneath an outer portion of said second wing to a location beneath an outer end, portio of said fourth wing, and a second means for connecting said second pontoon means with said second and fourth wings.

A vessel as set forth in claim 7 further including a plurality of surface means each of which is connected with and extends downwardly from an outer end portion of an associated one of said wings into the body of water to at least partially block a flow of air outwardly along the associated one of said wings»
10. A water vessel as set forth in claim 2 when said acute angle is substantially equal to 10°.
