Claims (11)
1. A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus having a vertical housing with a lower portion containing the compaction chamber therein, an upper portion containing a compaction means therein which reciprocates to compact refuse in said compaction chamber, and a vertically movable door for placing refuse in said compaction chamber, said housing lower portion being formed b a rear wall and opposed side walls of said housing but having an opening at the front thereof, and a dolly transportation apparatus including a base, an upstanding front panel and ground engaging wheels, said dolly transportation apparatus being assemblable with said housing whereby said front panel is disposed in said opening at the front of said housing lower portion; characterized in that the lower portion compaction chamber is formed by the rear and side walls of the housing and the front panel and the base of the dolly and a horizontally pivoting reinforcing bar is mounted on one side wall, extends across the front of the housing adjacent the compaction chamber, and is latched to the other side wall for reinforcing the housing during compaction and upon unlatching can be swung completely away from the front of the housing.

A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus according to Claim 1, further characterized in that said vertically movable door is mounted along the top edge of said horizontally pivoting reinforcing bar such that said door can be swung completely away from the front of the housing along with the bar so as to facilitate access to the compaction chamber.

A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus according to Claim 2, further characterized in that said vertically movable door is attached to said horizontally pivoting reinforcing bar by a hinge along the top edge of said bar which ermits said door to be o ened and closed for insertion of refuse 38867/2 4*

A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus in accordance with any of Claims 1-3, further characterized in that the top edge of the upstanding front panel extends vertically above at least a portion of said reinforcing bar so that when said dolly apparatus is positioned within the housing and the reinforcing bar is latched in position the reinforcing bar also serves to hold said dolly apparatus in position in said housing during compaction.

A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus according to any of Claims 1-4 , further characterized in that a handle means is associated with said dolly transportation apparatus to provide leverage for removing the dolly apparatus from within the housing while at the same time permitting said reinforcing bar full swinging movement away from the front of the housing upon its unlatching.
6. A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus in accordance with Claim 5, further characterized in that said handle means is removably engageable with said dolly transportation apparatus.

A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus according to Claim 6, further characterized in that said removable handle means includes a handle frame having a cross member thereon adapted to engage the upper edge of said front panel, and a lock device carried by said cross member and engageable with said front panel to couple said handle means to said dolly transportation apparatus.

A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus according to any of Claims 1-4, further characterized in that said dolly transportation apparatus includes depending pins on the bottom of the base which engage in notches in the housing to thereby position the dolly transportation apparatus within
9. A refuse compaction ancL transportation apparatus according to Claim 5, further characterized in that said dolly transportation apparatus includes a pair of depending wheels adjacent the front panel and a support depending from the under side of base away from the front panel.

A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus according to any of Claims 1-4, further characterized in that the latching of the reinforcing bar to the other side wall of the housing is accomplished by a locking means comprising a tubular housing secured to said housing, a pivot head piece mounted to said tubular housing, a locking jaw mounted to said pivot head piece and handle means mounted to said pivot head piece whereby the handle means is adapted to move the locking jaw to engage the reinforcing bar.
11. A refuse compaction and transportation apparatus according to any of Claims 1-4 , further characterized in that said vertically movable door may be locked closed to said housing by handle and locking element having a notch therein which engages a slot in the housing. SC:CB
