Description

WHEEL WITH INTEGRALLY MOLDED TYfiE AND HUB The present invention concerns wheels of the type having a hub of plastics, xxtxaL or the like on which the tyre or rim of rubber, plastics or the like is integrally molded.
Wheels of this type generally, but not exclusively, are of relatively small diameter and are used for trolleys and the like, as a replacement for castors which get damaged easily. ∑n British Faten$ No. 647,141 such a wheel is described and claimed which is made 6f a rubber tyre having circumferentially-recessed walls which are pierced by lateral holes, the disc part and hub of the wheel being cast onto the tyre whereby the casting material flows through said holes and forms a rod making a bond with the tyre.
Owing to said rods, the elasticity of the tyre is impaired and furthermore, the pressure which acts on said tyre when in use is apt to break off one or more of said rods.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a wheel of the type aforesaid in which the above-mentioned drawbacks are overcome without impairing the connection between the tyre and its hub.
The invention consists in a wheel of the type a aforesaid, wherein the rubber tyre has/peripheral inwardly slanted undercut groove at both its sides which merges into a peripheral bead extending in axial direction at either side, the width of the tyre between the ridges of the beads being less than the width of its rim, the hub being cast of any suitable plastics material so that it overlaps said beads and extends into said grooves.

Claims (2)

- 2 - Ap The invention is illustrated, by way of example only, in the accompanying drawings in which J Fig. 1 shows a side elevation of the wheel according to the invention; Fig, 2 shows a side elevation of the rubber tyre; Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken on line K - 8 of Fig. 1 of the wheel according to the invention. The wheel here illustrated comprises a rubber or rim t re /I having at both its sides a peripherally undercut groove 5 which has an inwardly slanted wall 4; The groove 5 merges with a peripheral bead 3 which extends in axial direction of the tyre, the width between the ridges of the beads being less than that of the rim 1. The plastics in a struction of the tyre ^in particular, owing to groove 5 and bead 3, a firm connection between the tyre and hub is obtained. C L A I S :
1. A wheel of the type aforesaid, wherein the ; or.1 rim rubber tyre/has a peripheral inwardly slanted undercut groove at both its sides which merges into a peripheral bead extending in axial direction at either side, the width of the tyre between the ridges of the beads being less than the width of its rim, the hub being cast of any suitable plastics material si* that it overlaps said beads and extends into said grooves,.
2. A wheel substantially as hereinbefore described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Tel-Aviv, December 28,1970 GENT FOE APPLICANT
