Description
ay A electronically controlled look BAHUGH RAZ and invention relates to an electronically controlled According to the present invention there is provided an electronically controlled lock comprising first and seoond electronic gates of the kind the output of the second gate being coupled to an input of the first gate whilst the output of the first gate adapted to be coupled to a a lock a plurality of lock selecting means for selectively ing lock contacts respectively to the remaining inputs of the gates and a voltage source havin first second voltage level the arrangement being such that the insertion of a correct key into the lock meohanism ensures the simultaneous connection of the inputs of the first gate to the first voltage level contact and the inputs of the second gate to the second voltage level As used in this specification the term electronic refers to a gate having an output at a specified voltage level for a set of inputs all at a first voltage whilst the term electronic refers to a gate haying an output at said first voltage level for a set of inputs at a second and different voltage The combination of first and second gates which are chosen depends on whether the relay is designed to operate with a high or low binary output from the first in the former case the two possible gate combinations for the first and second gates are NOR and In the latter case the two possible combinations for the first and second gates are NAND and The number differing lock combinations which can be constructed with an electronically controlled lock in accordance with the invention is determined by the number of differing connections which can be effected by means of the selecting means between the lock contacts and the inputs of the In practical terms the number of possible combinations for such an electronically trolled lock can be given by the relationship as where n is the number of lock contacts coupled via the selecting means to the gate Preferably one of said voltage level corresponding to a binary high voltage level is connected to all inputs of said gates whilst the other of said voltage level corresponding to a binary low voltage level is effectively earthed and is coupled to one of the lock contacts not connected to the inputs of the gates the arrangement being such that upon the insertion of the correct key all the inputs of one of the gates are nected to the lock contact and are thus brought to the binary low voltage level whilst all of the inputs to the other gate remain at the binary high voltage An electronically controlled lock in accordance e system where a lock of high reliability is the lock can be incorporated in an automobile ignition the relay controlling electrical contact with the ignition contacts the control circuit of the lock can be incorporated in an integrated circuit associated with an electronic injection ignition Additionally or alternatively the lock can be incorporated in an alarm system which actuated upon unauthorised tampering with the One embodiment of an electrically controlled lock in accordance with the present invention will now be described by way of example and with to the accompanying drawing which is a schematic logic diagram of the electronic control As seen in the a lock mechanism wise is provided with seven contacts to The lock contact is earthed whilst the remaining contacts to respectively connected to the moveable contacts of selector switches to via resistors to in parallel via resistors to to the positive terminal of a low sion voltage the negative terminal of which is One set of fixed contacts of the selector switches are respectively connected to six of the seven inputs of an AND gate 5 whilst the other set of fixed contacts of the selector switches to are respectively Connected to the 6 inputs of a gate the output of the gate 6 being connected to the 7th input of the AND gate The output of the AND gate 5 is coupled via a relay 7 and contact switch 8 to The relay 7 can when the operation of relay contacts which can connection to the ignition system of a an alarm or the The moveable contact of each of selector switches 2 connected to one or other of the fixed contacts of that switch and in way the lock contacts to are respectively connected in accordance with a determined combination to the inputs of the gates 3 and Now the condition for actuation of the relay 5 the consequent opening or closing of the associated relay is that the binary output of the AND gate 5 should be No the condition for such a binary output is that all the seven inputs to the AND gate should be Of the seven inputs of the AND gate three maintained floating and so do not count in the operation of the Of the remaining three are connected through the selector switches and and resistances and to the positive terminal of the voltage to the binary 1 Now of the six of the NOR gate three are maintained by floating and the remaining three are also connected through the selector switches and and resistances and to the positive terminal of the voltage source and therefore the output from the NOR gate 6 at the binary zero This putput is coupled to the 7th input of the AND gate 5 and in zero level and the relay 5 remains insertion of the oorrect key into the lock mechanism not has the result that whilst the connected inputs of the AND gate remain coupled to the positive voltage terminal all the connected inputs to the NOR gate are by means of the to the earthed contact in consequence of which all the connected inputs to the NOR gate 6 are reduced to the binary zero As a the output of the NOR gate now at the binary 1 level is fed to the remaining input of the AND gate 5 and with all the connected inputs to the latter being now at the binary 1 level the output thereof is also at the binary 1 level and the relay 7 is actuated with a consequent opening or closing of the associated relay As indicated above the AND gate 5 can be replaced by a NOR gate whilst the NOR gate 6 can be replaced by a NAND the relay 7 coupled to the output of the NOR gate being actuated when the output of the NOR gate is at the binary 1 If on the other hand a relay is used which can be actuated with an output at the binary zero level two gate combinations can be in a the relay is coupled to the output of an OR one of whose inputs is coupled to the output of a NAND gate whilst in a second the relay is coupled to the output of a NAND one of whose inputs is coupled to the output of a NOR insufficientOCRQuality
