Description
1 HAIR TREATMENT COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FIELD [001] The present subject matter relates to hair treatments. More particularly, the present subject matter relates to compositions and methods for coloring hair. BACKGROUND [002] Hair coloring is a known fashion need for centuries that goes back at least to ancient Egypt. Nowadays, people change their hair coloring so as to change their appearance or conceal grey hair. The compositions and methods have changed over the years at least from quality, safety, and health reasons. There are several possibilities for coloring hair, however, the main types that are used in hair dressing shops are permanent hair dyes, semi-permanent hair dyes, demi-permanent hair dyes, and temporary hair dyes. [003] Permanent hair dyes alter the structure of the hair as they lighten, darken, or change natural tones by allowing the dye to penetrate the hair shaft. Although permanent hair dyes work through oxidation, the formulations have gone through a complex process to achieve the intended effect on each strand while working with minimal damage and maintaining strength and elasticity of the hair, which is why modern-day permanent dyes are now usually made ammonia-free. [004] Semi-permanent hair dyes are vibrant hair colors that do not contain ammonia or other oxidation agents as well as developers so they do not alter the structure of the hair. Instead, they comprise smaller color molecules that are deposited on the surface of the hair. [005] Demi-permanent hair dyes involve an intermediate procedure between permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes by which one may darken or change the tone of an already lightened hair tone that was bleached. In this procedure, the hair dye is mixed with a low volume developer so as to slightly oxidize the hair, stimulate the hair shaft to open and allow the dye to slightly penetrate the shaft instead of coating the cuticles. The pigment molecules are larger than the pigments used for the semi-permanent coloring, that improving the color grip onto the hair. 2 id="p-6" id="p-6"
id="p-6"
[006] The last type is a temporary hair dye wherein the colors are wash-out dyes that do not alter and do not interfere with the natural or existing tone of the hair. There are no ammonia, nor developers, in the composition, which is water soluble. Temporary dyes have color molecules that are larger than the molecules of the semi-permanent type, so they only coat the outer layer of the hair. It has no component penetrating through the hair shaft and into the hair cortex. [007] The most popular types of hair coloring used in hair dressing shops are the permanent dyes and the demi-permanent dyes, while each method has its own kits of materials as well as pigment, so the shop has to have space in order to store both kits of materials and pigments. SUMMARY [008] Unless otherwise defined, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this subject matter belongs. For the sake of simplicity only, this method is occasionally referred to herein as "the method". [099] According to one embodiment, the method comprises: providing a permanent hair dye, a color developer and a composition for transforming a permanent hair dye to a demi-permanent hair dye, wherein the composition comprising: at least one detergent; mixing the permanent hair dye with the color developer to give rise to a homogenous mix of permanent hair dye and color developer; adding the composition for transforming a permanent hair dye to a demi-permanent hair dye to the mix of the permanent hair dye and the color developer; and mixing to give rise to a demi-permanent hair dye. [100] According to one embodiment, the composition comprises the various optional components described above. 17 id="p-101" id="p-101"
id="p-101"
[101] The demi-permanent hair dye that is prepared in the aforementioned method is ready for application on a user’s hair, for coloring the hair with the demi-permanent hair dye. [102] According to one embodiment, the color developer is any type of color developer used in the preparation of a hair dye. According to another embodiment, the color developer is in a form of a liquid. According to yet another embodiment, the color developer is in a form of a cream. According to a further embodiment, the color developer is hydrogen peroxide. [103] According to one embodiment, a weight of the color developer is up to substantially times of a weight of the permanent hair color. [104] According to another embodiment, a weight of the color developer is substantially 1-times of a weight of the permanent hair color. [105] According to one embodiment, a weight of the composition is substantially 0.25-3 times of a weight of the permanent hair color. [106] According to another embodiment, a weight of the composition is substantially 0.5-times of a weight of the permanent hair color. [107] It is evident from the steps of the aforementioned method, that the transformation of a permanent hair dye to a demi-permanent hair dye is very easy and rapid, and does not require any technical skills by the user, or any special equipment. Simple mixing of the composition with a permanent hair dye mixed with a color developer is all that is needed for the transformation of the permanent hair dye to a demi-permanent hair dye. [108] During experimentation with the composition of the present subject matter it was found that a process of dying hair with a demi-permanent hair color that was prepared with a permanent hair color mixed with the composition (composition-demi-permanent color) is advantageous over coloring hair with prior art demi-permanent hair colors in various aspects. [109] The composition-demi-permanent color is less viscous than the prior art demi-permanent color. Therefore, the composition-demi-permanent color is easily applied on the hair simply by pouring the composition-demi-permanent color on the hair and briefly massaging the hair, similarly to shampooing the hair. On the other, the prior art demi- 18 permanent color is much more viscous than the composition-demi-permanent color, and its application on the hair is long and tedious, and involves separation of the hair to substantially cm wide parts, and application of the prior art demi-permanent color on each part separately, while combing and massaging the part of the hair. [110] The prior art demi-permanent color has to stay on the hair for a period of substantially minutes until completion of the coloring of the hair. On the other hand, the waiting time for the composition-demi-permanent color to complete the coloring of the hair is much shorter, substantially 4-6 minutes. [111] After the color is removed from the hair, the hair is dried, or processed (curling, straightening) by heating the hair at a temperature usually higher than substantially 120oC. The currently available prior art demi-permanent colors are sensitive to heat, and during the drying, or processing, of the hair, the color of the hair may change or fade. However, it was found that the composition-demi-permanent color is more stable under heat, and hair color does not change or fade during drying or processing the hair. [112] It has been found that the composition-demi-permanent color is more stable on the hair, compared to the prior art demi-permanent color. The prior art demi-permanent color is fades after substantially 5-8 rinses of the hair. On the other hand, the composition-demi-permanent color was found to be stable even after substantially 20-30 rinses of the hair. [113] It has been also found that the composition-demi-permanent color strengthen the hair, and provides a sense of softness and shine to the hair, compared to prior art demi-permanent colors and permanent colors. This advantage is attributed to the presence of the detergent that softens the hair and prevents breakage of the hair, and to the presence of the fruit stem cells that heal and rehabilitate the hair. This is especially important when the composition-demi-permanent color is used after bleaching of the hair – a process of aggressive treatment that damages the hair. [114] Another advantage of using the composition of the present subject matter relates to savings in space and costs. Currently, a hairdresser has to purchase and keep in stock a full set of permanent colors and a full set of demi-permanent colors. The composition of the present subject matter negates the need to purchase and keep in stock the set of demi-permanent colors. Instead, the hairdresser has to purchase and keep in stock only a container of the composition, 19 and in addition the set of permanent colors. This reduces costs for purchasing color sets and space needed to store the color sets. [115] An additional advantage of the negation of using prior art demi-permanent colors, due to the usage of the composition of the present subject matter, is the reduction of the amount of empty metal and cardboard packing material that is thrown to the waste and pollutes the environment. It is estimated that usage of the composition of the present subject matter instead of prior art demi-permanent color sets may reduce the environmental pollution with metal and cardboard packing material in substantially 50%. [116] Yet an additional advantage of using the composition of the present subject matter relates to the embodiment of the composition comprising, inter alia, at least one pigment. The addition of at least one pigment to the composition allows preparation of a demi-permanent hair dye that can have an endless number of colors, or shades, due to the addition of an additional component to the hair dye – the composition, that can have any desired color, or shade. This allows a user to mix combinations of colors that are impossible to be prepared with prior art hair dyes, in addition the transformation of the permanent hair dye to a demi-permanent hair dye by using the composition of the present subject matter. [117] It is appreciated that certain features of the subject matter, which are, for clarity, described in the context of separate embodiments, may also be provided in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features of the subject matter, which are, for brevity, described in the context of a single embodiment, may also be provided separately or in any suitable sub combination. [118] Although the subject matter has been described in conjunction with specific embodiments thereof, it is evident that many alternatives, modifications and variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art. Accordingly, it is intended to embrace all such alternatives, modifications and variations that fall within the spirit and broad scope of the appended claims.
