Description

Tactical Illuminator for Firearms with Side Lightings for Identifying Friendly Forces Description TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention refers to a tactical illuminator for firearms with side lightings for identifying friendly forces.
BACKGROUND ART When police or military forces operate against an enemy (criminals or terrorists) there is a risk of two-sided shooting, in which the forces shoot at each other. This is much more valid when some forces are not wearing uniforms or mixed forces from different units which are called for aid and can easy be mistakes for an enemy. The risk of ‘friendly fire’ multiplies in poor visibility conditions, in urban fighting or at darkens, when sometimes multiple targets are needed to be searched and eliminated. The tactical illuminator and the method of the present invention provide a good and efficient solution for this problem.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The intention of the drawings attached to the application is not to limit the scope of the invention and its application. The drawings are intended only to illustrate the invention and they constitute only one of its many possible implementations.
FIG. 1 depicts a firearm (10) with the tactical illuminator (1).
FIGS 2 and 3 depict the right and left sides (61) (63) of the tactical illuminator (1).
THE INVENTION The main objective of the present invention is to provide a tactical illuminator (1) for a firearm (10). The term "firearm" hereinafter and in the claims refers to firearms such as handguns and rifles. The structure and the main components of the tactical illuminator (1) of the present invention may be similar to the known tactical illuminators, and it includes a body (2) that may contain an electrical power source (usually a battery), a targeting illumination source (3), an activation button (4) for controlling and activating the targeting illumination source, and attachment means (5) for assembling and attaching the tactical illuminator (1) to the firearm (10).
The targeting illumination source (3) can be a light for illuminating the target, a spot light, a laser emitter or the like. The attachment means (5) of the tactical illuminator may be designed in the form of a standard rail that matches a standard corresponding rail (11) on the firearms. Many firearms include a standard and universal rail that serves as a means of attachment of tactical illuminators for enabling compatibility with a wide variety of tactical illuminators. This is a description of the known standard tactical illuminators and therefore it is not necessary to describe in details the standard components of the tactical illuminator (1).
The innovation aspect of the tactical illuminator (1) subject matter of the present invention is a right side lighting (61) on the right side (62) of the body of the tactical illuminator, and a left side lighting (63) on the left side (64) of the body of the tactical illuminator. The operation of the right and left side lightings may be controlled by a control button (65). The right and the left side lightings are designed and intended to serve as means of identification of friendly forces. It is possible that the right and left 25 side lightings will include alternative colors, or several colors that can be lighted separately or at the same time, so that the colors of the side lightings can be selected by the control button. By that, police or military forces operating in a particular location and time can determine, during or before the operation, the color or colors of the side lightings that will be used as an indication to identify friendly forces, this in order to prevent criminals or terrorists from using the same colors, if it is permanent and known over time. It is possible that the side lightings will be activated together with the targeting illumination and by the same activation button (4), and in addition, may be controlled by the control button, for selecting the proper color or even for switching off and on the side lightings or dimming and brightening the lighting.
It is preferably that the right and left side lighting be weak lighting, because they are not supposed to illuminate objects, but only to be seen by friendly forces. In addition, it is preferably that the side lightings will be positioned in recesses (66) in the right and left sides of the tactical illuminator, so that the side lightings may be seen mainly from the sides, but not so clearly from the front, where the enemy is usually located (criminals or terrorists, for example). Figure 1 depicts the firearm (10) with the tactical illuminator and Figures 2 and 3 depict the right and left sides of the tactical illuminator (1). The activation of the side lightings may be together with the activation of the targeting illumination source, and its operation and the selection of colors can be done by the control button, or that the activation and the control will be done by the control button.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for police and military forces to identify friendly forces in place of operation by using the tactical illuminator (1) on their firearms (10).
Abstract A tactical illuminator for a firearm that includes a body, a targeting illumination source, an activation button for activating the targeting illumination source, an attachment means for attaching the tactical illuminator to the firearm, a right side lighting on the right side of said body, and a left side lighting on the left side of said body of the tactical illuminator that serve as means of identification of friendly forces.
