SPECIFICATION IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF SINGLE-PHASE A LTERNAT0R8 ■ CONSTRUCTOR ELECTRICA ESPA OLft , S.A., a Spanish Body Corporate, of 6, Virgea da la Encina, Madrid 19, Spain, DO HEREBY DECLARE the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed to be particularly described and ascertained in end by the following statement : P.A.28227/2 The present invention relates to single-phase alternators, and in particular to single-phase alternators used in motor cars as a substitute for dynamos.
Most of the alternators used up to now in the automobile industry are three-phase, having great economical disadvantages and technical difficulties for their use in motor vehicles of small cylinder capacity.
The alternators for performing the functions of the dynamos used to be provided with rectifying diodes for converting the alternating current produced by the alternators into direct current* In the case of three-j^hase alternators, six diodes are required, while for single-phase alternators, two diodes, are needed. This provides substantial economical and constructional advantages, as the cost of such diodes is high and their mountings very delicate. In three-phase alternators a bridge has to be disposed between three diodes and the insulation of the cover, which also is bulky.
According to the present invention there is provided a single-phase alternator of the kind used in motor vehicles in place of dynamos, comprising; a casing made of two half-covers fixed together; a stator including a stator winding, fixed to said casing; a rotor rotatably mounted within said stator, said rotor including a magnetic core, a P.A.28227/2 spool of insulating material provided with stops that, fix it to the core, a winding on said spool* a pair of collector rings fixed to said magnetic core, one of said collector rings fixed to said magnetic core, one of said collector rings being radially mounted on the core and the other being axially mounted oh the core, electrical connections from said rotor winding to said collector rings, aid electrical connections from the rotor winding passing through said spool stops to the collector rings) a pair of brushes engageable with said collector rings, said brushes being disposed in brush holders, one of which is grounded to said casing; and a pair of rectifiers fixed to said casing for rectifying the alternating current output generated In said stator.
The advantages of the present invention may be appreciated with better clarity from the description of its details with reference to the accompanying drawings in which are shown int Fig. 1, a section of the alternator, Fig. 2, a lateral view of the collector side, Fig. 3, a lateral view of the pulley side, Fig. ¾,r¾a vie in elevation pf another embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 5* a lateral view of the collector side of the alternator shown in Fig.
Fig. 6, a view in elevation' of another embodiment, and · ; Pig. ,7, a lateral view of the collector side . of the alternator shown in Fig. 6.
The alternator consists essentially of a rotor or inductor 1 and a stator or induced element 2.
The. rotor ox inductor 1 is formed of an iron core 3 in which,: above a spool of insula ting- material 4, is wound a winding '5., which on excitation produces a magnetic field which extends across the poles 6 ana the stator or induced element 2. In the spool .of insulating material, are a a gedT^j.\f¾s 7 which serve to insulate the ends of the windings connected to the collector rings, and also facilitate control of the magnetic core. The rotor is provided with an axle .8, permitting its rotation in the interior of the stator or induced element 2. At the front end of .axle. 8 are disposed a ventilation element 9 and a. pulley 10, the latter rotating rotor 1 by means of " a transmission and the mechanical engine. At the rear end of axle 8, integral with rotor 1, are disposed two c ollector rings , a axial one 11, and a- radial one 12, to effect the excitation of inductor 1 across two brushes, one. egative 14 and another positive 13, disposed above, brush holders 15 and 16 respectively, the brush holder 16 being Integra 1 with the co er .of the collector, across which the, circuit is connected to the mass...
, The stator or induced, element 2 is formed of a laminated, assembly 17 composed of a plurality of laminations of metal. plate interiorily provided with longitudinal grooves in which are lodged windings 18 of the induced element.
The stator is fixed to the alternator by means of two covers 19 and 20, which form a casing in whose interior the rotor 1 is lodged. In the cover 19 at the side of the collector rings are disposed two diodes 21 for rectifying the alternating current produced in the induced element. By means of a terminal 22, the diodes ma be connected in parallel to a co densor 23 for avoiding radiation disturbances to receivers.
The terminal 2 for the alternating current output is interiorily connected to the winding of the induced element ahead of its connection to the diode.
The excitation of the inductor i3 effected across a terminal 25, which is jointed interiorily to the positive brush 13, passing the exciting current to the mass by means of brush 14.
The cover 19 on the side of the collectors, and that 20 on. the side of pulley 10 have three windows 26 and 27, respectively, disposed at equal distances on their surfaces. The fixing of the two covers 19 and 20 above the stator 2, forming the casing, is carried out by three braces 28 distributed at equal distances on the periphery of the covers. The supporting of the alternator at' its place of use is carried out' by supports 20, 30 and 31 integral with said covers and provided with bores 32, 33 and 3^ or the reception of screws for fastening.
In the embodiment shown in Figs . 4- and 5, there ther.e. are provided in the casing at the side of the ' collector, two supports 35 a^d 36 instead oi' supports 29, 30 and 1 aad the terminal ox the alternating currant is suppressed. In the embodime t shown in Pigs; 6 and the supports 29, 30 end 31 are substituted- by a support 37·
