Description
Process compositions for coating vertical especially for plastering vails ASEER AND This invention relates to the production of coatings on vertical especially the plastering Of In the invention has the object to provide a proeess which enables the use of plaster compositions containing a polyester resin base as the setting as distinct from those compositions which contain cement or a Plaster compositions based on polyester as the binder could hitherto not be used in wall plastering work the reason that the compositions are too thinly fluid and run down along vertical surfaces when applied to the latte before they can set sufficiently in order to stick the use of such compositions has been limited to the manufacture of tiles and to similar where the fluid composition can be cast in a horizontal This invention provides a process for coating vertical wherein a substantially plastering which contains asbestos in addition to unsaturated resin as the and conventional pigments and the like ingredients is applied to the surface and allowed to set The invention also provides polyester resi compositions suitable for carrying out this has surprisingly been found that such compositions can be applied to vertical by any suitable method such as trowelling or the and they stick to the place where they are applied to the The polyester resin is used in a in particular not in aqueous As a rule it forms a A preferred proportion of the ingredients in compositions suitable the process according to the invention is about 20 by weight of polyester about 2 to of the balance being a conventional ground colouring pigments and the As a rule the compositions will also contai conventional setting accelerators and polymerization such compositions have numerous are and prevent the penetration of moisture through the so that they make outer walls and protect cellars or other underground rooms from seeping A further advantage of such plastering is that the fresh layer applied to the wall undergoes shrinking while This property can be utilized in the production of stone fragments which are thrown on to the layer while the latter shrinks and become firmly anchored The plastering can has good mechanical does not flake or blister and is resistant to chemicals which is an for in swimming pools where the water contains salts or is and for storage containers for It seems that the asbestos serves as an absorbent which imparts to still plastic composition a less thinly fluid and as structural reinforcement after the plasticizer has and The following is a example of plastering composition according to the the by weights Polyester resin Ground asbestos 40 Sand Taylor Ground quartz 150 Cobalt octoate 1000 When the ingredients have been well 10 ml a setting catalyst are ketone After the addition of the catalyst the composition ready for application to the and it should used as soon as possible in to avoid premature setting the plastering 5 insufficientOCRQuality
Claims (7)
1. A process for coating vertical surfaces, especially for plastering walls* wherein a substantially non-aqueous composition which contains asbestos in addition to a self-setting unsaturated /polyester resin and conventional fillers, pigments and the like ingredients is applied to the surface and allowed to set thereon.
2. * Compositions for carrying out the process according to Claim 1, containing asbestos in addition to a self-setting polyester resin and conventional fillers, pigments and the like ingredients,
3. Compositions according to Claim 2, wherein the proportion of the ingredients is about 20 to 35$ by weight of polyester resin, about 2 to 10$ of asbestos, the balance being a conventional filler, e.g. sand, ground quartz, colouring pigments and the like.
4. Compositions according to Claims 2 or 3t containing a setting accelerator, e.g. cobalt octoate.
5. Compositions according to Claims 2, 3 or 4* containing a polymerization catalyst, e.g. methyl-ethyl ketone peroxide.
6. Compositions according to any of Claims 2 to 5 for coating vertical surfaces, substantially as described herein with reference to the Example.
7. Surfaces, especially walls, coated or plastered by the process according to Claim 1, or with a composition according to any of Claims 2 to 5. PARSERS
