BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Elevator accidents may seem rare, but these incidents do happen and cause a range of serious injuries or death.
There are several reasons why an elevator may fail to work properly. When injuries do occur, they are typically attributed to a failure to properly service and maintain the elevator. The majority of elevator accidents involve sudden falls or elevator cars landing incorrectly above or below floors due to inadequate inspection and maintenance.
In 2020 a man and woman drowned in a flooded elevator in Israel due to heavy rainfall.
The elevator got stuck in the basement as a result of an electric short circuit.
Shortly thereafter came the wave of flooding water, which left the two people trapped inside the elevator as it filled with rainwater.
This tragedy could have been avoided if the elevator included escape routes.
Example of such escape routes are described in the following prior-art references: CN204454125U describes a sedan-chair top fixed with ladder box provided with rescue rope ladder in the ladder box.
