Abstract

An NBC filter unit (10) (Fig. 3) for use in a safe room NBC filtration system. The NBC filter unit (10) comprising: a casing (12), at least one inlet port (14), at least one outlet port (16), a particulate filter (18) and a gas adsorption filter (20). According to the invention, the NBC filter unit (10) further comprises an integral ventilation bypass (22) and air flow direction means (26) selectively operated to direct air flow internally from the at least one inlet port (14) to the at least one outlet port (16), either through the bypass (22), constituting a ventilation mode, or through the particulate filter (18) and the gas adsorption filter (20) constituting an NBC filtration mode.
