Abstract

The present invention relates to an improved selfsupporting headband device in order to provide more wearer comfort by conforming to the cranial anatomy in a better way than shown by prior art, and as a further benefit provide a cosmetically enhanced appearance than that of prior art

Description

SELFSUPPORTING EYEWEAR AN IMPROVED WRAPAROUND HEADBAND CONTOUR.
The side view or profile of this device may be basically straight as prior art has shown or it may be of this improved configuration which more suits the anatomy of the head. Please see figures and shoeing front and side views respectively.
Either metal or plastic may be used depending on the thickness and finishes desired.
Heretofore in prior art wraparound headbands have been generally shaped on a straight line from a side view of the head with no consideration being given to the anatomical fact that the eyebrows are at a higher level than the tops of the ears which are in turn at a higher level than the concavity (from a side view of the skull) beneath the rearward occipital prominence. Thus to conform appearance wise and comfort wise to these three different levels a three level wraparound device is needed as shown in front and side views of figures 2 and 3. This device when combined with the top view configurations of the other two patent applications enclosed (or prior patents) provides an improved cosmetic appearance compared to a profile when worn on the head of a straight headband from a side view, since it is more anatomically correct.
The center portion just between the eyebrows and above the eyebrows is exactly vertical instead of sloping approximately fifteen degrees behind vertical so that it is precisely in alignment with the portion of the forehead against which it touches. This provides more t SO 3 Ο 0 ft ft J -2SELFSUPPORTING EYEWEAR AN IMPROVED WRAPAROUND HEADBAND CONTOUR. comfort and lessens the need for padding or cushioning between the device and forehead.
The method of connection of this device to the lens rims has been detailed in other patent applications and may be of clips, single or double pinned hinges or may be fastened to the central portion of the headband device front with rivets, clips, or may be welded with flexible wire, depending on those skilled in spectacle making arts.
Unlike prior art the connection method may be! optionally made by using a double action hinge not used in headband applications before. This permits concealment of the suspension system, and to give the appearance of traditional conservative eyeglasses but still enables both a flip up capability as well as folding back for case insertion.

Claims (2)

Claims :
1. An improved device to better fit the wearers head as shown by figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 since it more correctly conforms to the cranial contours of forehead shape, ear location, and overall skull configuration than is possible with an ordinary straight from a side view type of headband as shown by prior art.
2. A cosmetically improved more user acceptable appearance when being worn, resulting from the improved configuration shown in this application compared to prior art.
