Abstract
A residual current device for use in combination with a circuit breaker 4 to interrupt a mains power supply comprises sensing means 3 to provide a trip signal to activate the circuit breaker SCR, 4 when a ground fault occurs, and directing means including diodes D2, D3 to complete an energizing circuit for the SCR to a neutral or ground lead if the ground or neutral leads respectively are open, without providing a current path between the neutral and ground leads. A test switch T is associated with resistors Rr, Rt which responds to live-neutral reversal. Wire links determine the gain of sensor circuit 3 and hence set the operating trip band of the device. <IMAGE>
