Description

The present invention relates to a soffit and facia moulding, in particular to such a moulding made of plastics material such that regular maintenance and painting is not required.
The present invention provides a soffit and facia moulding comprising a first elongate web arranged to extend in a substantially horizontal plane to form a soffit, and a second elongate web arranged to extend in a substantially vertical plane to form a facia, the first and second webs being joined along a common longitudinally extending edge to define a : substantially L-shaped cross-section, wherein at one end thereof each of the first and second webs is bent within its plane to form a corner, and wherein the first web is prolonged to extend away from said one end and said corner, and the second web is prolonged to extend away from said one end and said corner and is enlarged in the direction of its substantially vertical plane, the prolongations of the first and second webs being joined along a common edge, and wherein said first and second webs and the prolongations thereof are integrally formed as a> one piece moulding of plastics material.
The invention thus provides a soffit and facia moulding composite with an eaves and barge junction moulding.
Advantageously, the moulding is of glass reinforced polyester which may be provided with the required colouring. 05 The one piece soffit and facia plastics moulding may be fitted over an existing soffit and facia.
Formations may be provided on the soffit and facia plastics moulding so as to provide a decorative finish.
The invention will now be described more particularly with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show by way of example only, various embodiments of soffit and facia mouldings. In the drawings: IS Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dwelling house provided with soffit and facia mouldings; Figure 2 is a perspective view of the soffit and facia mouldings taken at "A" in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a perspective view of the soffit and facia mouldings taken ©t "B* in Figure 1, and showing an embodiment of a soffit and facia moulding composite with an saves and barge junction moulding in t accordance with th® invention; Figure 4 is a perspective view of the soffit and facia mouldings taken at "C" in Figure 1; Figure 5 is a perspective view of a soffit and facia external corner moulding; Figure 6 is a perspective view of a different soffit and facia external corner moulding; Figure 7 is a perspective view of a further 05 soffit and facia external corner moulding; Figure 8 is a perspective view of a soffit and facia internal corner moulding; Figure 9 is a perspective view of a further embodiment of a soffit and facia composite eaves and 10 barge junction moulding of the invention; Figures 10, 10a, 10b, 10c and lOd show side views of various soffit and facia mouldings; and Figure 11 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of a soffit and facia composite eaves and 15 barge junction moulding of the invention.
Referring to the drawings. Figure 1 shows a dwelling equipped with soffit and facia mouldings made of plastics material, such as glass reinforced polyester. Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the 20 basic moulding at the area A in Figure 1, and it will be seen that this moulding comprises a first elongate web 21 arranged to extend in a substantially t horizontal plane to form a soffit. A second elongate web 22 extends in a substantially vertical plane to 25 form a facia. The two webs 21 and 22 are joined along their common longitudinally extending edge 23 to define a substantially L-shaped cross-sectioon. Preferably, and as illustrated, a drip channel is formed to extend along the edge 23.
At the corner of the duelling the first and 05 second »ebs 21, 22 are bent within their planes to define a corner, as can be seen in Figure 3. In addition, the first substantially horizontal web is prolonged to extend away from the corner and is then bent out of its horizontal plane to extend 10 substantially vertically. The first web is subsequently bent again to extend at an angle to the horizontal. The second web is also prolonged to extend away from the corner and is enlarged in the direction of its substantially vertical plane. The IS first and second webs and their prolongations are joined along a common edge, as illustrated. As is clear from Figure 3, the first and second i«ebs and their prolongations are integrally formed as a one piece moulding of plastics material and hence a soffit 20 and facia moulding 30 composite with an eaves and barge junction moulding is formed.
Figure 4 illustrates a soffit and facia moulding 40 fitted at the apex of a roof as indicated at C in Figure 1.
A composite moulding of the invention as illustrated in Figure 3 may be used with a soffit and facia moulding 50, shown in Figure 5, which is an external corner moulding which may be used to fit over existing soffit and facia systems. A lip 61 is provided on the soffit and facia moulding 60 shown in 05 Figure 6, which is also an external corner moulding. A third external soffit and facia corner moulding 70 is shown in Figure 7 and is provided with a full lip 71. An internal corner moulding 80 is shown in Figure 8 .
An alternative embodiment of a composite eaves and barge junction moulding 90 of the invention is shown in Figure 9. Figures 10 and 10a are side views of two soffit and facia mouldings 100 and 101 having lips 102 and 103 respectively. Figure 10b illustrates 15 moulding 104 which is a soffit and facia moulding which may be used as a replacement soffit and facia to fit over an existing soffit and facia. Soffit and facia mouldings 105 and 106 shown in Figures 10c and lOd may be used in large dwelling houses. The soffit 20 elements 105a and 106a are provided with ridges 107 which extend lengthwise along the soffit elements 105a and 106a to give a sheeting effect and which also act as drip elements.
An alternative embodiment of a soffit and facia 25 composite eaves and barge junction moulding 110 is shown in Figure 11.
