Referring to the drawings there is illustrated a, garage forecourt canopy indicated generally by the reference numeral 1. Th® canopy 1 has a pair of spaced-apart ground engaging pillars 2. A rigid roof support frame indicated generally by the reference numeral 3 (Fig. 2) is mounted substantially horizontally on the pillars 2. Roof cladding 5 is mounted on top of the roof support frame 3 and ceiling cladding 6 is mounted on an underside of th® roof support frame 3. Channel shaped fascia cladding 8 surrounds the root cladding 5 and ceiling cladding 6, the fascia cladding 8 projecting inwardly above the roof cladding 5 and below the ceiling cladding S and inter-engaging with peripheral edges of the roof cladding 5 and ceiling cladding 6 as will be described later. -6The support frame 3 comprises a pair of spaced-apart parallel rafter beams 12 mounted on support beams 13 fires at upper ends 14 of the pillars 2. Each support beam 13 comprises a pair of spaced-apart I-section girders centrally fixed to a capping plate IS attached, at the upper end 14 of the pillar 2. Each of the rafter beams 12 is also an I-section girder, the rafter beams 12 being fixed at outer ends 18 of the support beams; 13 and sitting on th© support beams 13. A number of spaced-apart ceiling purlins 20 are transversely mounted to undersides 21 of the rafter beams 12 and extend outwardly of the rafter beams 12. A fascia panel support bracket 25 is mounted at each end of each ceiling purlin 20 to carry the fascia cladding 8.
Referring now in particular to Figs. 9 to 13, the fascia cladding 8 comprises a number of C-shaped fascia panels 30 carried in end to end abutment on the roof support frame 3. Each fascia panel 30 has a bottom wall 31, an upstanding side wall 32 and a top wall 33. Inwardly directed lips 34, 33 are provided at free ends of the bottom wall 31 and top wall 33.
Comer fascia panels 40 (see Fig. 10) are also provided of generally similar construction to the fascia panel 30 but having an L-shaped sidewall 42, bottom wall 43 and top wall 44. The bottom wall 43 and top wall 44 are each provided with an Intumed lip 45, 46.
Aa shown in Fig. IX each fascia support bracket 25 comprises a C-shaped member 50 having a sidewall 51 with a. top flange 52 and a bottom flange S3 extending outwardly at opposite ends of the sidewall 51. A spacer web 35 extends outwardly of the sidewall SI at a side edge of the sidewall 31 the web 55 being substantially perpendicular to the sidewall 51. A number of holes 56 for bolts or rivets are provided in the web 55 and sidewall 51. Intumed lips 56, 59 are provided at the free ends of th© top flange 52 and bottom flange 53. The engagement of each bracket 25 with a cladding panel 30, 40 is best shown in Fig. 5, the top flange 52 of the bracket 25 engaging with the top wall 33 of the panel 30 and the bottom flange 53 engaging with the bottom wall 31 of the panel 30. The lips 58, 59 at free ends of the flanges 52, 53 abut the IS lips 34, 35 on the panel 30, outer edges of the flange lips 58, 59 and the panel lips 34, 35 being flush. The web 55 extends outwardly of the sidewall 51 of the bracket 25 to abut against the sidewall 32 of the panel 30. Thus the bracket 25 firmly locates in the panel 30. It will be noted that the bracket 25 can easily be slid into engagement with the panel 30 from each end of the panel 30 to locate the bracket 25 at any suitable position on the panel 30.
Figs. 12 and 13 show one method of attaching the panels 30 and brackets 25. If will be noted that a bracket 25 Is provided at each end 36, 37 of th® panel 30. At one end 3S the bracket Is inset a short distance from the end 36 of the panel 30 - S' support bracket 23 projects and at the other end 37 a outwardly of the end 37 of the bracket 30. Xn this way the panels 30 can be brought into abutting engagement and the adjacent brackets 23 are bolted together to securely hold the 5 panels 30 end to end.
Referring now in particular to Fig. 5 and Fig. 8 each ceiling purlin 20 is connected to a bracket 23 at a lower end of the bracket 25 to define a slot 60 between the lower lips 34 and 59 the panel 30 and the bracket 25 respectively and an underside 61 of the purlin 20 for inter-engagement with peripheral edges 63 of the ceiling cladding 6. A longitudinally extending roof purlin 63 is fixed to brackets 25 at each side of the frame 3. The roof purlin S3 is fired at an upper end of each bracket 25 to define a slot 66 between IS lips 35 and 58 of the panel 30 and the bracket 25 respectively and a top side 67 of th© roof purlin 65 for inter-engagement with peripheral edges 69 of the roof cladding 6. As can be seen in Fig. 6 roof flashing 70 is interposed between a top of the periphery 69 of the roof cladding 5 and the lip 35 of the cladding panel 30. It will be noted, that the fascia panels 30, 40 are mounted by the brackets 23 on the support, frame 3 with upper ends of the fascia panels 30, 40 projecting above the support frame 3. In this way the roof cladding 5 which comprises a number of roofing sheets 73 slopes inwardly and downwardly from the side fascia panels 30. The sheets 75 rest intermediate their ends on the rafter beams 12 and inner -7ends 76 of each sheet 75 overlap a channel shaped gutter 78 running centrally along the support frame 3. A number of Hshaped gutter brackets 79 upstanding on the ceiling purlins 20 support the gutter 78. A drain pipe from, the gutter 78 is 5 routed through one of the pillars 2 which is hollow.
It will he appreciated that the canopy 1 can he erected quickly and easily on site from the prefabricated components. All the components are either bolted or riveted together. It will further he appreciated that the components of the canopy are all of relatively simple construction and thus easy and cheap to manufacture. The canopy 1 may he of any suitable materials of construction.
Referring now in particular to Figs. 14 to IS there is illustrated a modular shop assembly 80 for use with the forecourt canopy. The shop assembly 80 comprises a fabricated metal base frame 81 with upstanding comer posts 82: which support a flat roof 83. Modular side wall panels 84 extend between the base frame 81 and roof 83, the panels 84 having appropriate cladding. A front side wall 85 comprises a number of glazed panels 86. A door 87 is provided in the front side wall 85.
The shop assembly 80 is factory built and transported to any required site where it is fixed onto a pre-prepared foundation. It will be noted that a number of the shop units can be joined together and inter-connected by appropriate doorways to give a building ox any required sire.
It will also be appreciated that when in position on site an outer cladding ox bricks or any other material may subsequently be added to an exterior of the modular shop 80.
Use of the garage forecourt canopy and the modular shop assembly conveniently allows a garage forecourt service station to be constructed quickly and simply minimising on site working time.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment hereinbefore described and may be varied in both construction and detail.
