Description
The invention relates to a double wheel for a vehicle.
It is known to equip vehicles with double wheels and this has proved useful in practice for reducing the ground pressure, for improving traction and for increasing the efficiency of the suspension. The known coupling devices for connecting the wheel rims of the two single wheels consist, as a rule, of a flange-like screwed arrangement with radial tensioning levers, which are suspended from the rim projection of the double wheel by means of fasteners, or are suspended from special T-rings welded into the rim channel of the double wheel; the T-rings are welded to the rim by their webs (uprights). The fasteners are hooked onto the upper, flat portion of the T-ring.
These coupling devices have the disadvantages, that the web of the T-ring is bent by the high stress in large vehicles, and that in fixing the outer wheel to the vehicle wheel the outer wheel can only be coupled in particular coupling attitudes.
It is an object of the invention to develop a vehicle double wheel which does not have these disadvantages and can nevertheless be manufactured economically.
This object is achieved, in accordance with the invention, by providing a double wheel for a vehicle, comprising a vehicle wheel rim and an outer rim, a coupling device between the rims, a complete spacer ring which is secured to the outer rim, a securing ring which is secured to the inner face of an indented reinforcing channel and a plurality of tensioning devices which are detachably secured to the securing ring, the reinforcing channel being provided on the spacer ring, the tensioning devices each comprising a tensioning hook suspended in the securing ring and a tensioning device in the form of a toggle lever and the tensioning hooks being supported on the spacer ring with spacing from the reinforcing channel.
The double wheel according to the invention has the advantage that the outer wheel can be coupled to the vehicle wheel in any given attitude, so that even heavy wheels can be mounted without difficulty.
A further advantage is that the tensioning devices can be designed very short, which has the effect that the spacer ring, together with the outer wheel, undergoes very little rotation relative to the vehicle wheel, since the tensioning devices, describing as they do in this procedure a correspondingly smaller radius, diverge more rapidly from the securing ring which forms the tangent. This circumstance likewise contributes to greater stability.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described in more detail with reference to the drawing. The single figure shows a radial section through a double wheel with coupling.
The double wheel consists of an outer wheel rim 1, in one shoulder 12 of which a spacer ring 2 is welded along a welding seam 9. A number of releasable tensioning devices 3, circumferentially distributed and axially operating, tension the outer wheel rim 1 against the vehicle wheel rim 4. The tensioning devices 3, at their ends disposed towards the vehicle, are suspended from ring nuts 5 or welding brackets which are connected to the wheel disc. At their ends directed towards the outer rim 1, the tensioning devices 3 are suspended on a securing ring 6. The securing ring 6 is welded by a welding seam 8 to a reinforcing channel 7 of the spacer ring 2 in such manner that one side of the securing ring 6 projects to form a free space between it and the spacer ring 2, so that the tensioning devices 3 can be hooked over the securing ring 6 by means of tensioning hooks 15. Since the securing ring 6 is continuously welded, the tensioning devices 3 can be suspended from any position thereon. The outer wheel can thus be coupled in any given attitude to the vehicle wheel, since the tensioning devices 3 can be hooked onto the securing ring 6 in those radial positions where the ring nuts 5 are already located. Thus even very heavy double wheels can be assembled without difficulty, since follower projections are no longer needed. Since, on the vehicle side, no projections are provided for transmission of the rotary forces, the spacer ring 2 tends to rotate with respect to the vehicle wheel when driving under load. This causes the tensioning devices 3, acting through the spacer ring 2, to pull the outer wheel more tightly against the vehicle wheel. Great rigidity is attained by the above construction for suspending the tensioning devices on the double wheel. Since, as a result of this exceptional rigidity, no driver projections are needed, even heavy double wheels can be coupled on without difficulty and without having to be turned into a coupling attitude.
The reinforcing channel 7, which can be created for example by rolling, serves as an attachment place for the securing ring 6, and as a reinforcing element for the spacer ring 2. For heavily loaded double wheels several reinforcing channels 7 can also be provided on the spacer ring 2, bulging either outwardly or inwardly.
The number of the tensioning devices 3 can be matched to the expected loading of the double wheel.
The reinforcing channel 7 can be replaced, as an alternative, by a flat section ring secured to the spacer ring 2, the securing ring 6 being welded to said flat section ring in such manner that a free space once again permits the application of the tension hook 15. The reinforcing channel 7 with the securing ring 6 can, however, also be mounted on the outer wheel rim 1. The spacer ring 2 is welded or screwed to the outer wheel rim 1. When the vehicle is driven the outer wheel rotates a little with respect to the inner wheel, which has the effect of further approximating the two single wheels and making the double wheel more rigid.
The tensioning devices 3 are tensioned with the help of the square section tube 14, whereby the snapover play 10 can be adjusted by means of a displaceable base 11.
