Abstract

Curable compositions based on acrylate-type monomers in combination with free radical initiators, the cure of which is inhibited by contact with oxygen are rendered nontacky by inclusion of a compatible organic solvent in which has been dissolved an organic polymeric substance having an average molecular weight of at least about 10,000 and a glass transition temperature of at least about 0?. Upon evaporation of the solvent, the polymeric substance forms a film on the uncured surface of the composition, rendering the surface dry to the touch and substantially limiting oxygen transmission to the uncured composition, thereby enhancing cure. The compositions are useful as coatings or adhesives. [CA1093726A]
