Abstract

1471577 Polymer colouring compositions RHONE POULENC TEXTILE 11 July 1974 [11 July 1973] 30868/74 Addition to 1249720 Heading C3R A composition for colouring a thermoplastic polymer comprises (i) a dyestuff soluble in the polymer and capable of withstanding for at least 15 minutes without substantial decomposition, a temperature 10% higher than the melting point of the polymer, and (ii) a linear aliphatic polyester derived from an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid of 6-12 carbon atoms and an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic glycol of 2-6 carbon atoms, having a melting point not above 150‹ C., a melt viscosity not above 20 poises at 150‹ C. and being soluble in, or capable of being finely dispersed in, the thermoplastic polymer, the composition having a viscosity of at least 1000 poises at 20‹ C. The composition may contain 20-60% by weight of dyestuff. Specified linear aliphatic polyesters are polyethylene adipate, polyhexamethylene adipate and polyethylene sebacate. The examples describe colouring polyethylene terephthalate and polyhexamethylene adipamide with the above compositions. [GB1471577A]
