Abstract

1,249,720. Polymer pigmenting compositions. SOC. RHODIACETA. 29 Dec., 1969 [30 Dec., 1968], No. 63147/69. Headings C3P and C3R. A composition for pigmenting polymers comprises one or more pigments dispersed in a linear aliphatic polyester derived from one or more linear aliphatic dicarboxylic acids containing 6-12 carbon atoms and at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic glycol containing 2-6 carbon atoms, and having a viscosity of at least 1000 poises at ambient temperature, a melting point of 150‹ C. or less, and a melt viscosity of 20 poises or less at 150‹ C., preferably poly(ethylene sebacate), poly(ethylene adipate) or poly(cyclohexylene adipate). In the examples poly(ethylene sebacate) of M.W. 2200-3000 is melted and ground in a ball mill with (a) yellow cadmium sulphide, (b) copper phthalocyanine and (c) carbon black, until the pigment size is less than 1 micron and each composition is then mixed in an extruder with poly(ethylene terephthalate), poly(hexamethylene adipamide) and polypropylene.
