1474039 Alkoxy chlorosulphonylbenzaldehydes and alkoxy sulphamoylbenzoic acids SOC D'ETUDES SCIENTIFIQUES ET INDUSTRIELLES DE L'ILE-DE-FRANCE 26 Sept 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 41933/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds having the general formula wherein A is C 1 to C 5 alkyl or C 2 to C 5 alkenyl, and B<SP>1</SP> is C 1 to C 5 alkylamino, di-(C 1 to C 5 alkyl)amino, or a nitrogen-attached saturated heterocycle optionally containing a second nitrogen atom or an oxygen or sulphur atom, any second nitrogen atom optionally having a C 1 to C 5 alkyl substituent. They may be prepared by treating salicylaldehyde with an alkylating or alkenylating agent to produce a 2-(OA)-benzaldehyde, reacting the latter with ethyl ortheformate to produce a 2-(OA)- benzaldehyde diethylacetal, reacting the acetal with chlorosulphonic acid to give 2-(OA)-5- chlorosulphonylbenzaldehyde and treating the latter with an aminating agent capable of introducing a suitably substituted amino group. The compound of Formula I may then be oxidized to give a compound of the formula [GB1474039A]
