Abstract

1470657 Lithographic blanks VICKERS Ltd 26 June 1974 [11 July 1973] 33130/73 Heading B6C [Also in Division D2] In a process for inscribing an image on a lithographic blank consisting of a non-conductive hydropholic under-layer and an electrically conductive hydrophilic over-layer, by contacting the over-layer with a stylus through which a current is passing, mechanical abrasion of the over-layer by the stylus is prevented by coating the over-layer with a soluble protective material. Preferably the under-layer, being ink-receptive, is a flexible plastics material, e.g. a polyester, the over-layer is ink-repellent when wetted and may be aluminium, chromium or nickel; the protective layer consists of a film-forming layer, a plasticizer and a pigment. After inscribing, that part of the protective layer which has not been removed during inscription is dissolved; the solvent for the protective layer may also etch the hydrophilic over-layer to improve its water-accepting properties. The properties of the protective layer are chosen to have the desired anti-abrasion characteristics. [GB1470657A]
