Abstract

1,244,177. Electro-sensitive record media. MARCONI INTERNATIONAL MARINE CO. Ltd. 13 Nov., 1968 [4 March, 1968], No. 10376/68. Heading D2B. An electro-sensitive record medium comprises a carrier body, a metallic markable layer deposited thereon, and, covering the layer, a layer of partially electrically conductive material. The carrier may be of paper, paper with a sealing coating of polyvinyl chloride, or a polymeric film, e.g. of polyester, polyolefin, cellulose acetate, regenerated cellulose or polyvinyl chloride. The metal may be aluminium, cadmium, zinc, or alloys of cadmium or zinc, which may be deposited by vacuum deposition. When the carrier is opaque, the partially electrically conductive layer should be of colour contrasting with that of the carrier. Where the carrier is transparent, it may be provided with a back coating of any colour, and the partially conductive coating may be of colour contrasting therewith. Recording is effected by locally burning or vapourising away the metal deposit by means of an electric current.
