Abstract

1420057 Pyrazine-tetracarboxylic acid esters SOC NATIONALE DES POUDRES ET EXPLOSIFS 13 March 1974 [15 March 1973] 11222/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Novel pyrazine-tetracarboxylic acid esters having the formula wherein X is an alkyl radical containing at least 3 carbon atoms, may be prepared by a novel process for preparing such esters wherein the alkyl groups may be optionally substituted with one or more functional groups which are stable to boiling H 2 SO 4 , and which comprises reacting the di-potassium salt of pyrazinetetracarboxylic acid with concentrated H 2 SO 4 and an alcohol of the formula XOH, at an elevated temperature. The substituents in the alkyl groups are suitably ether, ketone, sulphoxide or phosphine oxide groups. The reaction is suitably carried out at the reflux temperature of the acid/alcohol mixture.
