Abstract

1420293 Foam resins BAYER AG 15 Feb 1974 [16 Feb 1973 18 April 1973] 6973/74 Heading C3R Foam resins based on polyisocyanates are prepared in a closed mould in the presence of a mould release agent which is the reaction product of a mono- and/or polyisocyanate and a fatty acid ester in which at least one aliphatic carboxylic acid which contains more than eight carbon atoms is built into the molecule, which fatty acid ester has an acid number of from 0 to 100 and a hydroxyl number of from 0 to 150, at least one of the two values being greater than 0. The foam resin is preferably one which contains urethane groups and as well as being derived from a polyisocyanate is derived from a polyether which contains predominantly primary hydroxyl groups. The reaction product of the fatty acid ester and a polyisocyanate may be prepared in situ in the polyisocyanate subsequently used in the foam-forming reaction. Suitable monoisocyanates are equimolar addition products of diisocyanates and monohydroxyl compounds, benzyl isocyanate, phenyl isocyanate, tolyl isocyanate, cyclohexyl isocyanate or stearyl isocyanate. Exemplified fatty acid esters are addition products of pentaerythritol, oleic acid and adipic acid, self-addition products of ricinoleic acid, an addition product of train oil fatty acid and sorbitol, and natural wool fat. The process may be used for the production of rigid, semirigid or flexible polyurethane foams. [GB1420293A]
