Abstract

Aerated fibrous cellulose fleece is produced from fibrous sheet material, e.g. 'drylap' fibre-board, by an appts. employing a disintegrator to disintegrate the fibre-board, and a housing with a carrier element, as well as a perforated carrier element at the discharge end of the appts. to collect the separated fibres and form the fibrous fleece. The disintegrator comprises a cylindrical fibre-separating element which is rotatable axially and has teeth distributed around its periphery, the inclined surfaces of which are at an angle of 15-40 degrees w.r.t. the radii connecting with the teeth apexes, while the top lands of the teeth form a relief angle of 20-60 degrees inwards. The fibre-separation member is separated from a carrier element in the housing by 0.25-2.1 mm, and the housing forms a limited air flow conduit with the fibre-separation member so as to keep the fibres swept away by the air stream within a min. cross-sectional area. Air suction openings are located 25-105 mm from the point at which the fibrous material is acted upon by the fibre-separation member. Outside the delivery outlet there is a perforated substrate which collects the separate fibres while allowing air to pass through them and is spaced 0.75-2 times the dia of the separator from its centre.
