1300316 Synthetic diamond UKRAINSKY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY KONSTRUKTORSKO TEKHNOLOGICHESKY INSTITUT SINTETICHESKIKH SVERKHTVERDYKH MATERIALOV I INSTRUMENTA GOSPLANA UKRAINSKOI SSR 26 Aug 1970 [24 April 1970] 40995/70 Heading C1A Diamond is prepared by subjecting a carbonaceous material and a cupreous material to a temperature of at least 1800 C. and a corresponding pressure within the diamond stable region. The carbonaceous material is carbon, e.g. graphite, or a material which liberates carbon under the conditions of the process. Similarly the cupreous material is a copper compound which liberates free copper under the conditions of the process, e.g. copper oxides and basic copper carbonates. The charge may be in the form of a homogenous mixture of powders of the materials, or in the form of alternating discs of the carbonaceous and cupreous materials. The pressure may be at least 80 Kbar.
