A method of forming transverse corrugations in a tube 1 so that the thickness of the tube material is not significantly decreased and the tube material does not become significantly work-hardened comprises positioning the tube within a frame carrying three rolls 3 in a plane at right-angles to the tube axis, applying pressure to one or both ends of the tube, rotating the frame around the tube and progressively pressing the rolls 3 into the exterior surface of the tube. Additional guide rolls may be added to the frame to be positioned in a prior-formed corrugation. The corrugated tubes may be used for collapsible steering columns. [GB1262913A]
