Abstract

1,231,552. Track switch operating mechanism. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 21 Jan., 1970 [24 Jan., 1969], No. 2977/70. Heading B7N. In a track switch operating arrangement, when each switch tongue has been moved to its required position, the appropriate tongue is resiliently urged against its associated rail. Switch tongues 4, 5 are coupled by bar 6 and connected by an adjusting bar 7 to an operating stretcher bar 8 in switch box 9. An additional lock bar 10 and bars 11, 12 for operating the points position detectors also enter the switch box. The stretcher bar 8 is connected to one arm 14 of a two-armed lever 15 pivotally mounted at 16 and having the free end of its second arm 17 recessed 40 and angled 18, 19 to receive a driving pin 24. The pin is mounted on a reciprocating element 22 coupled by nut 23 to drive shaft 20. The arm 17 also supports at pivot 27 a flat plate 28 with uptur ned portions 29, 30 on which cup springs 33, 34 are mounted by nuts and bolts 31, 32. One of the bolt heads can engage an abutment surface 36 or 37 on a support 35 secured to the lever 15. The free end of the plate 28 is formed similarly to the free end of arm 17 of the two-armed lever except that the surfaces 38, 39 enclose a smaller angle than the surfaces 18, 19. In use shaft 20 is rotated by a motor (not shown) and moves drive pin 24 into engagement with the recess 40 at the end of the lever and thus moves the switch tongues to the required positions. The final movement of the pin rotates plate 28 about its pivot, whereby a further resilient force is applied via the springs and the support 35 to move the appropriate tongue into contact with its associated rail.
