Abstract

1275917 Microscopes or screen projectors with enlarged exit pupils VISION ENG Ltd 1 Oct 1969 [12 Dec 1968] 59137/68 Heading G2J A microscope having no eye-pieces or a screen projector has means to position and illuminate an object to be viewed and an optical device for producing enlarged exit pupils which comprises in the light path to the eye of an observer a multiplicity of lenticular faces which are traversed within the light path such that when the motion of said faces exceeds the persistence of vision the angle of light egress is multiplied with respect to the angle of light incidence. In a microscope, a primary image at B is further imaged by an objective C and projection lens D and then passes through a beamsplitter prism E to collimator lens F abutting a rotating disc G having the lenticular reflective faces thereon. The magnified images so produced are further enlarged by field lens H and finally appear as enlarged exit pupils (approximately 2 inches to 5 inches in diameter) at normal interpupilliary distance. The lenticular faces on disc G may also be formed on an endless belt of aluminized plastics material (27) Fig. 5 (not shown), which is rotated or motor driven on rollers (29). In a profile screen projector they may be embossed as convex protrusions on a transparent plate, Fig. 4 (not shown). A non-stereoscopic microscope and a research microscope having the optical device are also described. Applications for such microscopes and screen projectors may be teaching aids, small screen displays and in sales promotion films. [GB1275917A]
