Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A culvert for unprotected pipes, e.g. 1a, carrying hot fluid, comprises a base plate 2 of permeable, heat insulating material, e.g. mineral wool, which is placed in the bottom of a trench, and a channel-sectioned cover 4 of heat insulating porous material arranged thereover in spaced relationship. The pipes are of corrosion-resistant material, e.g. stainless steel or plastics, and the base plate and cover of plastics-impregnated spun wool. The culvert is said to be self-drying. The pipes 1a, 1b may rest on spacers, or directly on the base plate, and a drain pipe 5 is preferably arranged underneath the base plate. [GB1267542A]
