Abstract

1,265,804. Vinyl ester copolymer compositions. BPB INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 March, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 24859/68. Heading C3P. A composition for use as a jointing cement between building boards or panels comprises mineral filler, a copolymer of vinyl acetate and the vinyl ester of a predominantly tertiary carboxylic acid made by reaction of olefins with carbon monoxide and water in the presence of an acid catalyst, and sufficient water to confer on the composition a plastic consistency suited to a jointing cement. The predominantly tertiary carboxylic acid is a mixture of branched monocarboxylic acids of which more than half are acids in which the carboxyl groups are attached to tertiary carbon atoms. In the examples the compositions comprise an aqueous emulsion of a copolymer of vinyl acetate and a vinyl ester of C 9-11 branched acids, diisobutyl phthalate, ethylene glycol, silicone defoaming agent, ground limestone, talc, mica, starch, cellulose ether, yellow ochre, sodium orthophenylphenate, asbestos, bentonite and water.
