Abstract

1,209,977. Spinning; treating textiles. JONATHON LOGAN Inc. 17 May, 1968 [20 July, 1967], No. 23699/68. Headings D1F and D1L. A method of stabilising at a desired bulk level bulked, heat-settaible, thermoplastic yarn wound in a package on a core, the yarn in the outer portion of the package being at substantially the desired bulk level and the yarn in the inner portion of the package being below the 'desired bulk level, comprises the steps of removing the core and replacing it with a perforated tube of smaller diameter, axially compressing the package, and treating the package with heated liquid. A package 17 of bulked yarn wound on a cardboard tube 16 is placed on a table 23, core 16 being aligned with an aperture (24) in table 23 and with a mandrel 20 carried by the piston of a hydraulic ram 21. A perforated, stainless steel tube 25, less in diameter than tube 16, is positioned on mandrel20 in abutment with a radial flange 22 thereon. The ram is then operated to eject tube 16 and to replace it with tube 25, the package being compressed by flange 22 at the end of the downward stroke. The package is then immersed in heated liquid which may also serve for dyeing the yarn. [GB1209977A]
