Abstract

A building membrane (1) comprises a bubble layer (2), to one side (3) of which is bonded a sheet (4) of aluminium foil, to the external surface (5) of which foil is adhered a peel-off, anti-glare sheet (8). <Figure 1>

Description

Field of the Invention This invention relates to a membrane for use in the building industry, particularly during building construction, and to a building incorporating such a membrane.
Background of the Invention A known membrane described in GB 2367839, comprises a two layer structure being a bubble foil to one side of which is bonded a sheet of aluminium foil. When installed during building construction, eg by being attached to the walls or timber framework of buildings, the reflective glare from the aluminium presents a potential hazard for personnel performing building site operations.
Object of the Invention A basic object of the invention is the provision of an improved building industry membrane.
Summary of a First Aspect of the Invention According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a building industry membrane comprising a bubble layer, to one side of which is bonded a sheet of aluminium foil, to the external surface of which foil is adhered a peel-off, anti-glare sheet.
OPEN TO PUBL'C INSPECDOW UNOER SECTION 28 ANL RULE 23 inlno„.!.117...........
IE Ο 3 09 48 Summary of a Second Aspect of the Invention According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a building, incorporating in its wall structure, a membrane in accordance with the first aspect.
Advantages of the Invention With the membrane in accordance with the invention, the anti-glare sheet may be left in situ until later stages in building work, such as brickwork commencement, or progression, such that troublesome reflective glare is eliminated. io Preferred or Optional Features The bubble layer is industry-standard synthetic plastics sheeting comprising an array of individual air pockets or bubbles trapped to a backing sheet, also of synthetic plastics.
The anti-glare sheet is of synthetic plastics material.
The anti-glare sheet has an opaque colouring.
Brief Description of the Drawings Figure 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view of a portion of the membrane in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a side elevation, to a larger scale, of a portion of Figure 1; and Figure 3 indicates use of the membrane.
In the drawings, a membrane 1 comprises a first layer 2 of bubble foil or wrap, having a planar, inner surface 3, and a non-planar, bubbled outer surface 4.
One side 5 of an aluminium foil 6 is permanently bonded to the planar surface 3 of ,Εϋ5094β the bubble wrap. To the other side 7 of the aluminium foil 6 is a peel-off, and hence removable coloured eg green, membrane 8 being a synthetics plastics, anti-glare sheet.
In use the membrane 1 is supplied as rolls eg of width 1.35m to 2.62m. The 5 membrane 1 is cut on site and stapled to eg sheathing board 9, with cut-out apertures for windows 10 and doorways.
As shown in Figure 3, the sheathed board 9 with attached membrane 1 is assembled vertically in the wall cavity of a building under construction.
As the brickwork 11 etc rises, the bricklayer 12 peels off the anti-glare io membrane 8, so as to expose the side 7 of the aluminium foil 6.

Claims (7)

1. A building industry membrane comprising a bubble layer, to one side of which is bonded a sheet of aluminium foil, to the external surface of which foil is 5 adhered a peel-off, anti-glare sheet.
2. A membrane as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the bubble layer is industrystandard synthetic plastics sheeting comprising an array of individual air pockets or bubbles trapped to a backing sheet, also of synthetic plastics. io
3. A membrane as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the anti-glare sheet is of synthetic plastics material.
4. A membrane as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the anti-glare sheet 15 has an opaque colouring.
5. A building industry membrane substantially as herein before described with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings. 20
6. A building incorporating in its wall structure a membrane as defined in any one of Claims 1 to 5.
7. A building substantially as herein before described with reference to Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings.
