Abstract

P removal by chemical means during biological purificn. of effluent is undertaken following purificn. on a droplet forming body and prior to post-settling, and happens simultaneously with a short live sludge treatment. Most, if not all, biologically decomposable organic matter is removed on the droplet forming body. Following addn. of chemicals removal of P takes place in the presence of 300-600g/l live sludge and with simultaneous aeration. Sludge contact and aeration time is 5-60 mins.. - A pref. implementation of this process is to flocculate chemically treated live sludge mix at 10-70 per sec. velocity gradient for 5-20 mins., and/or to allow the sludge to settle in the post-settling section, and following 1-20 min. preaeration recirculate it to effluent purified on the droplet forming body.
