Germinal cyclo-propane-dicarboxylic-acid -lactones of general formula (I): where R1 and R2 = H and independently 1-4C alkyl gps.; R3 = H, tri:halogen-methyl, or 1-4C alkyl gps.; Y = electrophilic gp. or atom-, are prepd. when an olefin of general formula (II) is treated with an electrophilic reagent capable of inducing reactions leading to the formation of 'pi'-complexes with olefins and with a base. This method also can lead to the prepn. of cpds. of general formula (VIII), where R4 is short chain alkyl gp. and X a halogen.
