Abstract

Pulsation frequency and amplitude are varied by changing the time interval between at least two static mixing stages and/or changing the local or the average stream velocity and/or changing the number of static mixing stages within a set time period. In some cases the retention of the gas or of the dispersed phase and/or the extent of the specific phase-boundary area are changed. The stream velocity may also be changed by separating at least one liquid stream downstream of the static mixing stages, and in some cases, before recirculation, by imposing a radial flow. Then the stream is recirculated once or more in a system containing one or more static mixer stages. - The equipment comprises at least two static mixers whose distance from each other can be adjusted and/or whose number can be changed (by locating in or removing from the stream, dismantling or connecting). The equipment is characterised by mixing section(s) and/or static mixer(s) or by devices, located in the mixing section(s) and used to change the stream flow velocity. In some cases, the following are included:- a recirculating system with at least one, or in some cases several static mixers or mixing sections, which may be connected to the main pipe via a venturi-tube type section, and/or a unit located downstream of the static mixers, or mixer sections, producing at least a partially radial flow, and/or space(s) and/or devices producing phase separation.
