Abstract

Productivity of aerobic and anaerobic treatment of waste effluents is enhanced by synthetic pref. PVC contact-cells placed in the aeration tank of activated sludge systems or in the decomposition tank of anaerobic systems. In both cases the improvement is due to the development of fixed bio-films on the contact cells. Cells constructed of parallel channels and of other special cross sections are more effective. Further combinations are possible by the introduction of active charcoal, and/or modified bacteria, and/or zeolite ion exchangers and/or of additional cellular rubber based contact cells, into the section area.
