Abstract
A mixt. is prepared on the surface, contg. alumina cement and an alkali soln. of polyacrilamide. The mixt. is transferred to the well head, where it is allowed to set until it becomes a rubbery jelly, immiscible with water. It is then pumped into the well and solidifies, becoming rock-hard within 20-48 hours. When it is set, the cement mixt. may be drilled without danger of drill deviation. The proposed method may be used to seal off sections of a well, to stabilise the wall or seal of the liner or the well itself.
