Abstract
The polyester composition comprises repeating units of formula -(C(O)-R-C(O)-O-(CH2)x-O-) (1) where x = 2-6; at least a portion of units R = 1,4-phenyl; and at least 5 mole% total units R = 1,3-phenyl, wherein the density of the polyester is at least 1.362 g/cc. Also claimed are: (1) the polyester composition containing terephthalate (T) moieties and at least 8 mole% isophthalate (I) moieties; (2) a polyester composition comprising T moieties and at least 5 mole% I moieties, that has been subjected to a combination of strain induced and thermal crystallisation; (3) manufactured articles comprising the polyesters, especially containers having a stretch index of less than 130 cm; (4) a method of making high density polyester, comprising subjecting the polyester composition comprising repeating units of formula (1), to strain induced crystallisation, optionally followed by thermal crystallisation, to achieve a polyester density of at least 1.362 g/cc; (5) a polyester container made by blow moulding a preform of the polyester; and (6) a polyester preform for injection stretch blow moulding, or a polyester container, wherein the polyester comprises T, I and optionally 2,6-naphthalate (N) moieties, having an acetaldehyde level of less than 8 micro-g acetaldehyde per g of preform or per litre of container volume.
