Abstract

A plastic element inserted into the chamber of a heat exchanger incorporate s numerous vertically-arranged grid-like bodies (1, 1') linked to each other, between which liquid and gaseous media flow in either contra-flow and/or cross-flow. When installed, the liquid medium flows from top to bottom. The novelty is that: (a) each g rid-like body (1, 1') has a generally rectangular basic shape; (b) each grid-like body (1, 1') incorporates a strip extending across its upper edge and lower edge (2); (c) the two strips (2) are linked by a number of fan-fold or corrugated profiles (3); (d) alternate grid-like bodies (1, 1') incorporate waves or folds (4) which are transverse, or at an angle to, its horizontal axis; (e) the grid-like bodies (1, 1 ') are linked together at the points where the strips (2) on the waves or folds come into contact (41), to form a single element; (f) the strips (2, 2') in adjacent grid- like bodies (1) are joined together by welding or an adhesive (7); (g) the grid-like bodies (1, 1') are plastic mouldings.
