Abstract
The electrochemical cell comprises a vertical, cylindrical, internal electrode (2) having a middle section and pin ends. The diameter of each pin end is not more than 0.75 of that of the middle section. A vertical, cylindrical outer electrode (1) is mounted around the internal electrode. A coaxial, ceramic diaphragm (3) is mounted in the electrode chamber between the electrodes. It is made of a base composition of a mixture of zirconium, aluminium and yttrium oxides. The electrodes are made of materials that are non-soluble during electrolysis. The external electrode is mounted in slots in lower (4) and upper (5) dielectric bushings. The electrodes are connected to the positive and negative poles of a power supply. The cell further includes upper (7) and lower (6) dielectric heads each having an axial channel. Each collector head is installed in the adjacent bushing slot and is adapted for turning in it. The internal electrode is fastened inside the collector heads by elastic gaskets (10,11) in the channels. The lower and upper heads and bushings have channels for the inflow and removal of water or solutions. The diameter of the middle section of the internal electrode is given by 2M D 4M, where: D is the diameter of the middle section of the internal electrode (mm); and M is the distance between the electrodes (mm). The length of the middle section of the internal electrode is either shorter than the length of the external electrode by a distance of 2M, or longer by a distance of not less than 2M.
