Abstract

An olefin polymer is produced by polymerizing at least one alpha -olefin with a catalyst comprising a metal complex of formula ZA'MXpX'q (I); M = titanium, zirconium or hafnium in the +2, +3 or +4 oxidation state; A' = indenyl substituted in at least the 2- or 3- position with a hydrocarbyl group, optionally substituted with fluoro, hydrocarbyloxy or dialkylamino, or silyl, germyl or a mixture, the group containing up to 40 non-hydrogen atoms, and A' is covalently bonded to M by a divalent Z group; Z = a divalent group bonded to both A' and M by sigma -bonds comprising boron, a Group XIV element, nitrogen or phosphorus, in which an aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbyl group is covalently bonded to the nitrogen or phosphorus atom via a primary or secondary carbon atom; X = an anionic or dianionic ligand containing up to 60 atoms, but excluding cyclic, delocalised, pi -bound ligands; X' = a neutral ligand group containing up to 20 atoms; p = 0, 1 or 2 and 2 less than the oxidation state of M, provided p = 1 when X = a dianionic ligand; and q = 0, 1 or 2. Also claimed are: (1) an olefin interpolymer with specified properties (detailed below); (2) a method improving the upper service temperature (UST) of an article or a formulation comprising incorporating the interpolymer (1) above.
