Abstract

Example embodiments provide a method of pinpointing the position of a user using wireless positioning signals emitted from a wireless mobile device that is held by the user. The method includes: collecting a plurality of data packet sequences by a computer system, in which each data packet sequence is originated from a wireless transceiver that are installed in a pre-determined position and each data packet includes a signal strength of the wireless signal emitted from the wireless mobile device to the wireless transceiver, a unique identity of that wireless mobile device and a timestamp indicating the time when the wireless signal is received; marking the data packets with signal strength higher than a threshold by the computer system; counting the number of the marked data packets in a sliding time window by the computer system; determining the wireless transceiver that receives the maximum number of the marked data packets within the sliding time window as the designated transceiver by the computer system, and identifying the user's position being in the vicinity of the designated transceiver.
