Abstract

Elution of fluorinated emulsifiers from anionic exchange resins is effected using a mixture comprising: (a) water; (b) an alkali metal or alkylammonium compound; and (c) an organic solvent which completely dissolves (a) and (b). Elution of fluorinated emulsifiers from anionic exchange resins is effected using a mixture comprising: (a) water; (b) a compound MX; and (c) an organic solvent which completely dissolves (a) and (b) and gives sufficient anions X for the elution. M = an alkali metal or alkylammonium with 1-4C alkyl; X = OH, F or Cl; An Independent claim is also included for processing the eluate by: (i) steam distilling to remove the volatiles; and (ii) treating the distillation residue with strong acid to set the emulsifiers free in free acid form.
