Abstract

A method for controlling an air conditioner having selectable operational modes with selectable function patterns. The operational modes include a cooling, warming, automatic, and sleep modes, which have respective set values about temperature, flow rate, and air direction. The function patterns are selected by a user separately from the operational modes. The function patterns include standard, health, rapid, power saving, and calm patterns, which function to vary the set values of the respective operational modes. The respective elements of the conditioner are controlled in accordance with set values about the temperature, air volume, and air direction corresponding to a combination of the selected operational modes with the selected function patterns. Accordingly, since the air conditioner is controlled to operate on various conditions, the air conditioner is capable of satisfying the needs arising from the environments in the room and the needs of the user.
