Abstract

A continuous variable transmission system with low weight, cost, bulk, friction and complication. It can perform all the operations a typical transmission system can perform, that is it can act like a clutch smoothly engaging the load to theprime mover, it can select from a continuous and wide range of transmission ratios and it can differentiate the torque to the driving wheels as a controllable differential. It is based on the operation of overrunning clutch and in the elastic connection of the driven wheel to the output shaft. There is no need of gears even for the selection of reverse. Its operation may be automatic, semiautomatic or manual. It can be used in bikes, automobiles etc.
