Abstract

An oral composition, such as a paste or a dental gel or a mouthwash containing an essential insoluble in water, non-cationic anti-bacterial agent, such as triclosan, which when used to clean the teeth or wash the mouth, acts to reduce dental plaque, is packaged in a distribution container or a bottle that includes a solid polymer material, such as polyfluoroethylene, which is compatible with the anti-bacterial agent so as to prevent extensive loss of anti-plaque action of the said agent during storage. Alternatively, various other polymers can be used as parts of the container that normally would induce extensive loss of the anti-plaque action of the anti-bacterial agent's synthesis; however, this action is counterbalanced by the inclusion of a stabilizer, such as a terpene, e.g. limonene, in the oral composition formula. A method for impeding the development of dental plaque is also described.
