Abstract

Compositions for the care and/or treatment of natural teeth comprise an alkaline solution of N-monochloroglycine (which may be formed in situ from glycine and sodium, potassium or calcium hypochlorite). At pH 9-11.5 both as a solution and in the form of a paste, (I) is capable of removing dental plaque, tartar and carious material from teeth without attacking hard, healty dental material. The compositions may be in the form of toothpastes or mouthwashes, which may contain usual additives. A ffurther suitable composition is solution of (I) for spraying onto the tooth surface in order to remove caries prior to filling.
